Söderfjärden is also the bird's paradise - especially famous for the abundance of cranes.
Here are the main food and resting places for cranes in Finland with a total of around 10 000 visiting cranes every autumn.
In the dusk fly mighty plows of cranes to the archipelago to overnight in the warm beach water. They return at dawn to celebrate the day in the fields spill seed.
Since the cranes may damage un-harvested fields, experiments of feeding on specific game fields, have been conducted. Swans and geese are also comon visitors on Söderfjärden.
