Söderfjärden and Meteoria
Söderfjärden is a unique place on our earth

- an ancient, approximately 520 million year old, well-preserved meteorite crater – one of only about 200 known craters on Earth – thus an exceptionally rare natural formation

A satellite image of the Vaasa region clearly shows the crater roundel Söderfjärden. Söderfjärden is about 6 km across. The site is located on the west coast of Finland - one half of the crater in Sundom village in the city of Vaasa and the other in Munsmo and Solf villages in Korsholm municipality. A small part in the southwest belongs to Malax municipality.
Meteoria Söderfjärden Visitor Center 
has been located in the middle of the exclusive crater since 2008

At the Meteora center there is
- grades with advanced exhibitions about the history of the place and the earth
- an astronomical observatory
- a birdwatching tower and outdoor exhibitions open 24 hours a day

Since its inception, Meteorian has had sustainable energy production from solar and wind.
The center is run by the Meteoria section of the Sundom Village Association and the center's astronomical observatory is managed by the Vasa Andromeda association.
